In the first three areas, weapon upgrades (+1 to +3 with Titanite Shards) matter far more than Strength or Dexterity. Pump Vigor to 20–27 first so bosses cannot one-shot you.
Holding your shield up slows stamina recovery to a crawl. Lower your shield between enemy combos—and never block a Lothric Knight's shield-bash, or you will be staggered into a fatal riposte.
