Dark Souls III

Cleansing the Rotting Canvas

I. Ashes of Ariandel — A Cold, Dark, and Very Gentle Place

At the Cleansing Chapel in the Cathedral of the Deep, a kneeling slave knight named Gael begs the Ashen One to enter a scrap of a magical painting. Unlike the outside world—where Lords sacrifice themselves to prolong the flame—the inhabitants of the Painted World of Ariandel know that when a canvas begins to rot, it must be burned away with fire for a new world to be painted.

Yet Sister Friede, eldest founder of the Sable Church of Londor and an Unkindled herself, arrived in the painting and convinced Father Ariandel to smother the flame with his own blood—choosing to let the world slowly fester in rot rather than face the fire.

Three-Titanite-Slab Encounter

Boss Anatomy: Sister Friede & Father Ariandel

FORM: Sister Friede (Solo)
KEY THREAT: Invisibility Leap & Scythe Grab
COUNTERMEASURE: Track Snow Puff Direction / Throwing Knives

When Friede turns invisible, watch the puff of snow at her feet: if the snow shoots vertically upward, she jumped directly behind you; if the snow kicks left, she dashed right. Stick a Throwing Knife or arrow into her early—it remains visible floating in the air even when she vanishes, giving you a free charged heavy attack or backstab while she charges her grab.

At the World's End

II. The Ringed City — The Pigment of the Dark Soul

Descending through the Dreg Heap—where the shattered ruins of Lothric, Earthen Peak, and the original Firelink Shrine collapse upon one another—the Ashen One reaches the Ringed City. Gifted to the Pygmy Lords by Gwyn at the dawn of the Age of Fire, this gilded metropolis is actually a prison sealed in stagnant time by Princess Filianore's slumber, guarded by Ringed Knights branded with a seal of fire and the Abyssal dragon Darkeater Midir.

When you touch Filianore's cracked egg, the illusion shatters. You wake at the literal end of the world: an endless desert of grey ash where every kingdom has been ground to dust. Alone among the ruins crawls Slave Knight Gael, who survived until the end of time to devour the dried blood of the Pygmy Lords—turning himself into the vessel of the complete Dark Soul so his lady in Ariandel might finally have her pigment.

The Final Duel of the Trilogy

Boss Anatomy: Slave Knight Gael & Darkeater Midir

ENCOUNTER: Slave Knight Gael (Feral Stance)
WEAKNESS: Poison / Frostbite / Hollowslayer Greatsword (Phases II–III)
DANGER: 5-Hit Berserk Combo & Executioner's Grab

In Phase I, Gael fights on all fours like a rabid hound. He is not yet Hollow, but he is vulnerable to Storyteller's Staff poison spores and Frostbite. Bait his long flying lunge across the dunes, roll into him, and never swing more than twice before resetting stamina.
